Hush Money is a great introduction to a very refreshing series, Talent Chronicles. Its pace is fast and thrilling throughout most of the book. Packed with action and suspense, Hush Money is a very engrossing read.
Joss' world was crafted masterfully by Susan Bischoff I found myself drawn easily into it. It is a world where super-powered teenagers try to act as normal as they can to avoid anyone's attention, most especially, the attention of National Institute of Ability Control (NIAC)- research facilities run by the government where kids with supernatural powers were transferred when discovered.
Bischoff's writing is extremely rich and clear. I was entranced by the grace of her writing and the spare power of her style. She has produced an enormously original and moving work. The story is told from Joss and Dylan's alternating point of views, which is very helpful in understanding their feelings.
The characters are hauntingly real and deep. The protagonists are a likable bunch. Joss, an intelligent high school girl who does everything in her power to go unnoticed. She is mature and careful but full of inner strength- a perfect heroine for me. Dylan is protective and scaring. I love how he sees Joss- so sweet.
Taking everything into account, Hush Money is an immensely satisfying read, can't wait to read the next installment of the series!
