Vampyre Nation Book One: This Immortal Coil

As background, I am a 75 yr old avid reader and have been for most of my years. I read all genre of books in fiction and non-fiction categories. Steve Mandel comes at this work from a unique perspective -- that of a soon to be fully of age vampire. Having taught high school English for many years, his handling of that age group is one that brought comfort to my reading. His abilities to "spin a good yarn" qualifies him, in my book, as a competent author. This is a short book, one that I finished reading in two days. Once, I started the story moved along at a good pace. (His great command of the English language helped me not to stumble over horrendous errors often found in books from less know publishers.) I enjoyed the story. The characters receive the right amount of attention to be believable, even in near sci-fi subject matter. The pace is well maintained and the twists and turns held my attention. When I reached the end of the story, I was hungry for more. Bravo! Deserving five stars from me!

At 75 yrs of age, it might be surprising to some that I am giving this work my hardy approval and endorsement. It immediately grabs your attention. The young protagonist character is well developed, Secondary or less prominent ones could have used further attention but did not distract from moving along with a good cadence. Enough foreshadowing allows acceptance of outcomes, but (here again) a little more "flesh" on the antagonist side would have prompted a full five stars from this reader.
