Ross Lyn Cairns

Biography

After a number of different careers, and then retirement (which is the busiest of all), I retired from retirement and FINALLY have time to fulfill my lifelong ambition to write!
I do this from sunny Queensland, Australia. My first novel hopes to be published very soon, thanks to the enormous help from Smashwords.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I started writing as soon as I could hold a pencil. Always I knew I would write a book. Joining a Memoir Group where I had to write and share regularly energised me to start on my first novel.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My first book began with a story from my mother. But it was when i realised that I was writing fiction that I took control and chose the direction of the story. Absolutely no character in the book is real although obviously I have been influenced by people I know.

I am so glad i stumbled across Mark Coker. I had researched a variety of self-publishing books, but the Smashwords Style Guide was so practical and detailed I know I wouldn't have got anywhere without it. I love the Secrets because of the acknowledgement 'First write a great book' being 80% of the job. I am aware the indie market is crowded now, which is exactly why we need to study the marketing guide, to become the cream rising to the top. Thanks for your generous help, Mark
