Don't be fooled by the bland summary- this book is fantastic!
This is the story of Auden Jasper Jones Lalique, who has managed to make a new life after suffering a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Along the way, she must navigate her complicated relationship with her best friend Evan, her interaction with her family, who still miss the "old Auden", and the "self-help guru" career she has carved out for herself. There are also shocking revelations about her childhood.
My favorite parts were the excerpts from Auden's self-help work. Ms. Olsen has woven them into the narrative seamlessly and they help us chart Auden as she navigates a year in her life.
It would have been interesting to compare a bit of the old vs. new Auden (maybe she could remember why she liked certain things?) but the book is already sweeping. Maybe next time?
