Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I have been writing since I was a young adult. I wrote short stories, and essay, narratives on my views of life.
How did your writing progress as you aged?
I began to enjoy learning how stories were structured. I learned about sentence, and story structure, naturally making English my favorite subject in school. Once in college expression through writing was essential and I excelled in it. I continued writing and over the years attended writing courses and workshops that helped to develop my writing. What I took away from each of these writing intense courses was the need to develop my own voice, and style and most importantly to infuse my writing with my culture. It was at a conference in San Francisco, the Voices of Our Nations writers conference where most of the attendees and instructors were of color, which helped to facilitate dialog and demonstrations of how much more definitive the writing could be when cultural references were include in the plot or the storyline.
