Let me start off my saying that I am not a fan of Twilight or any of the "new age" vampire stories we see all over the bookstores, TV and movie theatres these days. But...I do enjoy a good supernatural story that involves young love and mystery. I took a chance on Immortal and found it to be something entirely different and exactly what I was looking for in a good, quick read.
For me the book started off a little slow. I had a hard time getting through the first impression of this seemingly mediocre female lead character Alina. But after she starts meeting the guys who split apart her life and everything she loves, you get to dig deeper into who Alina really is and how strongly convicted her allegiances hold.
The book has a really amazing arc that you can't be prepared for. Once I got about 1/3 of the way through the book I couldn't stop reading. I don't want to give away too much more (even though some reviews have done this already).
I highly recommend this book for any young adult or parent who wants their teenagers to read "quality" young adult literature. Thank you Lauren Burd for writing something for the rest of us "non-twilighters" out there and hurry and finish the sequel. I just can't wait!
