The Black Grave is a marvelous beginning for a new writer in the paranormal/supernatural/detective genre. After reading "The Black Grave", I was reminded of the Jim Butcher series, The Dresden Files. This is kind of like Harry Dresden or Mike Hammer being reincarnated into Jack Howard. I'm currently reading Hill's second offering, "Dead Remains Dead", and looking forward to the same thrills and chills.

I read Hill's "The Black Grave" first and was suitably impressed; then realizing that "Dead Remains Dead" was a prequel, answered a few questions that I had on the first one. The appearance of Maximillian Frost as an out-of-body spirit was explained, and from there it was the same supernatural/detective thriller I was expecting. The author continues to provide the dark, twisted plot lines which keep us turning pages far into the night.
