I've read this marvelous tale several times and the thought I'm always left with is "BRILLIANT!!" THE TALK is like nothing I've seen before, packed with humor and serious content in equal measure (although the serious part is cleverly disguised). I don't usually consider discussing the narrative voice in literature, but it deserves consideration here. There is a truly unique rhythm to this story, one that's subtle brilliance reveals itself repeatedly throughout. The narration quickly develops into a "voice" that seems to stand outside of ones mind, as though one is being spoken to by a talented storyteller who is also a delightful friend. I don't wish to give anything away. The story is a pleasure to read and more so if you have been allowed to discover it on your own. I'll just close with the suggestion that you immediately make time in your day to get started! An excellent read, and a pleasure to come back to, over and over. Once you've finished, you'll feel as though you've made a new and wonderful friend.
