Spa Guru is a nickname that many spa practitioners in Bali have given to Shari Hartman, who has been a spa consultant, spa trainer, and spa manager for over fifteen years in Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and her hometown of Vancouver, Canada. Guru means teacher in Bahasa Indonesia. She set up and managed two spa schools in Bali – Jamu Spa School and Bali BISA, which have become the top two spa schools on the island. She has been writing spa related stories for several years for Spa Asia magazine, Bali Style, FFV and Dream Weddings and writes her own column, Beauty & Health, in Bali’s local paper, The Bali Advertiser, which is read by almost all ex-patriots and many tourists. She was also a speaker at the International Anti-aging conference held in Bali in 2013 on the subject of the Bali Spa Experience.
Shari decided to approach some of her friends managing spas in Bali to ask if they would contribute a recipe for her book. Everyone was delighted to make a contribution, and many sent photos as well as recipes. Using her nickname, she has named the book The Spa Guru’s Home Spa.
