Fat people are the last group that is okay to make fun of and treat horrible because we have been told too many times that they are lazy and have no self control. If they ate less and exercised more they wouldn't have that problem. Considering the obesity problems facing this country and many others it cannot just be laziness. We are treating the health problems that came along with the cancer and not curing the cancer. Obesity is a cancer of modern convenience age, prepackaged, fast food and chronic snacking. We have been programmed to crave sodium, sugar and super sized meals. We have been told to eat every three to four hours and now we eat out of stress, boredom and habit. How many of us know what hunger feels like? Not many I would bet. How come people that eat so many low fat foods are still fat? Wouldn’t cutting out the fat help reduce the fat we carry? Isn’t that what we have been told for so long? Eat less, exercise more, everything in moderation, you will be fine. Lies, many doctors now days will push for you to have a life altering surgery (bypass) to cure a problem for a few years, yes a few years, per a study found on NIH website. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1856611/ *Significant weight gain occurs continuously in patients after reaching the nadir weight following gastric bypass.* Weight watchers and other various programs fail in the long term also. Why? Unless you make the life style changes any program you do will help you until you no longer do that program. We are addicted to a drug legally sold over the counter, package food. That is it. It’s simple; manufactures have perfected the science of food, the perfect combination of fat, sugar and salt. It kicks off the reward center of the brain and like any other drug, we crave more. There is only one way to beat the food drug and that is to stop the cravings and that is where Dr. Rivas and other doctors like him come into play. They do not lie that all you need to do is eat less and exercise more. It’s not that simple when we have become food junkies. He provides the medication needed to help break those cravings and gentle guidance on healthier eating habits. Many doctors claim you do not need medication to lose weight but they have no problem giving you medication to treat high blood pressure, diabetes and many other problems for life. How long can you take these medications for? Why not for life if you have no medical conditions that prevents it. You have people having second and third bypass so why not a medication for life? One pill that gets you to your weight goal, which in turn, gets you off five drugs you have been taking for 20 years and expected to take for life. Now you can hope you made those life style changes and try on your own, with great commitment, you may succeed or gain it all back too ashamed to come back as the weight creeps back. Or you can take one pill that helps your addiction to food, that one pill helps you maintain a healthy lifestyle. That one pill everyone frowns upon with prejudice, the same prejudice people felt about anti-depressants/anti anxiety pills.
