I was born in Leicester, England, but spent most of my adult life in Scotland, where I was a member of Bute Writers' group. The interaction, positive feedback and general creative atmosphere of the group both improved my writing and pushed me to become more prolific. During my time in Scotland, I put together a collection of short stories and penned a situation comedy about bagpipes and relationships ('The Pipes, the Pipes'), which was staged by a local drama group on the Isle of Bute.

I have lived in China since 2008, and have been teaching there for the past ten years. Has my writing of the Bucket & Broom books been influenced by my work in China? Yes, certainly! I love writing, and strongly recommend joining a writer's group if you want to write books or short stories. They can really help you to get started, and get really good feedback on your work.
I currently live in Suzhou - a beautiful city close to Shanghai, which I highly recommend you visit if you ever come to China (I'll show you around!). I was a founder member of Suzhou Writers and Artists group and contributed to 'Letters from Suzhou', an anthology of writings published by the group (the book is on this website).

My currently completed works are: 'Bucket and Broom in China'; 'Bucket and Broom Tie the Knot'; '44 Acorn Grove' (an anthology of short stories); 'Alien Virus'; 'Time Leap 1: Date Me'; ‘Time Leap 2: Finding King Arthur’; and my newest work: ‘Time Leap 3: Double Fantasy’.

Apart from writing books, I play guitar and have written many songs, which I have performed with my band 'The Infractions' in Suzhou. During the COVID-19 lockdown time here in China, I decided to try my hand at making music videos. Considering I’d no previous experience of this, I’m quite pleased with the results! (You can find the videos on my YouTube Channel… search for Steve Howrie). I believe that if you have the passion to do something creative, just go and do it! There’s always an outlet for creativity in this World, and even if just one person's life has been touched by what you have written or produced, then it's well worth doing.

Happy reading… and stay safe!

Steve.
