When did you first start writing?
I remember my first story was in grade 1 when I was 6 years old. It was written for a competition called the Macintyre Young Writers. It was a about a baby eel running away from home, it didn't win a prize. But I finally got one in grade 7 :D
What motivated you to become an indie author?
There are a few reasons actually. Since around 13 I've always wanted to become an author, which was why I went to university to learn more about it. During my under and post grad studies I realised just how difficult it was to get a book published through a publishing house. These houses often focus on the marketability more so than the content of the book. In their opinion if they think that a book isn't mass marketable then they won't take it on. Also author's don't make as much money as they deserve. The going royalty rate from a publishing house is usually around 10% or 15% if they're lucky.
Going indie allows me greater control over all aspects of my story. I'm a bit of a control freak in this aspect of my life.
