What motivated you to become an indie author?
Well, I had something interesting to say, but the traditional publishing route is a hard nut to crack, and they take so long. I was determined to get my story out, so I took the self-publishing route. I'm really glad I did, too. It's been a fun adventure, and still is.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords was my first step. To get my book out in all distribution channels, both as an e book and the print edition, I had to publish it three times. This was through Smashwords, KDP, and Createspace. It would have been nice if one place took care of everything, but they don't. I chose Smashwords to start out because they handle the e book edition and distribute it to all the major outlets, except Amazon. That's why I had to use KDP. Well, I wanted to put out the e book first, and Smashwords has this little book that I read in preparing to self-publish. It explained the whole process so simply that it became the logical first step. I'm glad I did, too.
