I grew up in the suburbs of Houston where, like Henry in the story, I felt I was suffocating. As I left those suburbs and my child hood I have found my passion and fire in many places. My passion for this story came upon me at the beach while on summer vacation. In the last three days of the vacation I wrote the first three days of this story. When I got home from vacation I did nothing with those pages. As I headed off to the beach the next summer I managed to find the spiral notebook I had been writing in. That second summer I wrote the next nine days of Henry’s life and completed the first draft of the story. Henry led me to a new passion. A lot of hard work has led from that first draft to this final story but the fire has never gone out.
I now live in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. where I have learned how to keep my fire alive.
