Tira St. James

Like Sina, the heroine of my book, I think it is important that a person keeps an open mind, learns new things throughout their lives, and accepts people for who they are, not what they are. Other than that, we don't have much in common. She is tall, I am short. She is beautiful, I am ... not so much. She can use electromagnetic energy as a power, all I can do is shock myself with static electricity. I find this last limitation to be a major bummer!

I love to read, but have become bored with heroines who seem more focused on the pectoral development of some hunky guy than in developing who they are, in making hard decisions, in being proud of what they can do. While both Sina and I are all for admiring good pectoral development, it is secondary to being a strong, independent woman. To overcome this dearth of fictional kick-ass women, I decided to create one.

I hope you join Sina and her friends on their journey. Thank you, Tira St. James

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Let's see. First story. That could have been either Winkin' and Blinkin' and Nod or the Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat. My mother would set me on her lap every night and read me a bedtime story. That was a long, long time ago, so I can't remember it having much effect, although my mother said I did seem to prefer the stories with animals in them. I have always been more interested in animals than in people. I do remember arriving at kindergarten and having to read Dick and Jane, which was massively boring because I already knew how to read.
How do you approach cover design?
It must show action. And for crying out loud it shouldn't be all about cleavage. I write stories in which the heroine is strong and I want her to be more about who she is than in how big her boobs are or in how much sultry she can throw out to the reader.
