R E Swirsky

Ray grew up in the small town of Kimberley in British Columbia before moving to Calgary Alberta to go to college. He has remained in the Calgary area ever since.

Ray's first book, THE BLUFFINGTON FOUR is a time travel mystery about four students who disappeared in the mid 1960s.

EXTREME MALICE released in early 2012, is a dark mind bending thriller. If you could create the perfect murder and get away with it, would you? A young university student is charged with murder. His guitar string is wrapped around her neck. His shoe prints are left at the scene. Her earrings found under his bed. Her husband hundreds of miles away. But what really happened...?

IN THE MIDST OF A PREDATOR is a very very short psychological story. Released in mid 2012. The story follows a young boy who is alone at the fair grounds and finds comfort in a stranger who reaches out to him. The young boy is having the best night of his life, unaware what the man has something very different in store for him.

WISH ME FROM THE WATER was released in January 2013 .
Two teenage hockey players brutally murder their parents in an unexpected altercation after a close friend and teammate commits suicide. The town's people believe the suicide was another tragic result of bullying, but the two boys have learned the true horror of why their friend took his own life, and decide to take matters into their own hands.
Detective Dean Daly is called in to investigate the brutal murders and believes there is much more to the murders than first appears.

How do you approach cover design?
I wanted something different and unique that would stand out against other books, but at the same time, was consistant from cover to cover. The images on the covers were either taken by myself, as I love photography, and then modified and assembled using Photo Shop. I tried to capture a feeling in the cover shot that echoes the undertone of the book.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
One of things I steer away from in books I select are the epic novels than run into the many hundreds of pages. I like to read, but I tend to read in short spurts. Being able to finish a book in just a few days is important to me. I find with the epics I may put the book down and come back to it a few weeks later to find I've forgotten or lost part of the characters history and background. I find myself not finishing these books even though they may be brillaintly written. Maybe it's just my short attention span, but I like a story that moves fast, with action right from the beginning preferably.
