LJ Baker

Biography

L J lives on the Jersey Shore with her husband, four kids, two cats, and an inherited dog from hell (a.k.a. the sewer gremlin). Though writing has always been her first passion, she got a degree in psychological counseling and worked in the mental health field for awhile, which she finds very helpful in dealing with her crazy family. She is a lover of all different types of music and books, switching between genres so wildly it sometimes makes people wonder if she has multiple personalities. She is most likely to be found writing romance stories of all kinds (contemporary, erotic, new adult, young adult, fantasy, etc.) and has just finished writing her first book, Save Me. When she's not writing, she prefers to spend her time reading, taking photos, or spending time with her family.

  • In Too Deep on May 18, 2013

I'm a sucker for anything with vampires, werewolves, or faeries, so when I started reading In Too Deep I thought I was in heaven. Not only does it have my three favorite fantasy creatures, but there are a whole host of 'others' like werecats, mages, druids and more. There is a large cast to get to know, but the main characters, Fallon and Brody are easy to fall in love with. Fallon is strong and full of spunk. She isn't your typical weak and helpless female lead, waiting for the guy to come in and save her. In fact, she is the one who saves him on more than one occasion. That is not to say that Brody can't take care of himself, because he is a big strong wolf that any girl would love to have as back up. One thing I will say about In Too Deep, is that there is a lot of terms that a new reader to this genre might not be familiar with. I wish I had realized up front that there is a reference guide in the back that explains all of the terms that are helpful to know. I would suggest checking that out first to avoid any confusion later on. I would definitely recommend reading In Too Deep if you enjoy strong, sexy, take-no-prisoners females, and hot werewolves with a sweet vulnerable side. Oh and then there's the hot sex! That's always a good reason to read!
  • New Beginnings on Aug. 03, 2013

Review of New Beginnings by Brandy L. Rivers I was lucky enough to see this novel develop from draft to finished product, and I have to say, Ms. Rivers did an awesome job pulling it all together. New Beginnings is the prequel to the Other's of Edenton series, which can be read first or after In Too Deep. In New Beginnings, we have the story of Slater, Edenton's own steamy hot pack leader and Jess, a badass psychic who is looking for a clean break and a fresh start. Just like her first book, In Too Deep, Ms. Rivers knows how throw in plenty of action, conflict and suspense. Oh and I can't forget to mention the hot steamy sex. There is plenty of that! We get to know some new characters in this installment, like Victoria the vintage and ever so classy vampire. We also get to know some familiar characters even better, such as Brody, my all time favorite, who will steal your heart and make you swoon. If you are looking for a series pack with wolves, vampires, mages, druids, and more 'others' than you can count, with plenty of action and a healthy dollop of sizzle, then this is the place to start.
