Biography

Sylvia Melvin’s Bio

Sylvia Melvin’s affection for the written word has roots in her Canadian heritage. She grew up in a small village in northern Ontario at her family’s fishing lodge. Often, books were her companions and she began journal writing as a young adult. Today, although she lives in Florida, she uses those experiences to entertain and educate her readers in the short stories and novels she writes.
Sylvia presently works as an intervention reading teacher at W.H. Rhodes Elementary School in Milton, Florida. She enjoys teaching creative writing to her pupils and believes that reading and writing go hand in hand.
As a founding member of the Panhandle Writer’s Group, Sylvia feels the interaction between other members has motivated her to publish and market short stories and four novels: Summer Guest, a romance set in Canada, Helena:Unwavering Courage, the biography of her grandmother, Southern Sage: The Honorable Woodrow Melvin, a biography of a prominent Santa Rosa resident and Death Behind the Dunes, a murder mystery set on the coast of north west Florida.
Sylvia likes to take her readers to places they have never visited, meet folks who arouse their emotions and leave them wanting to read more.
