I received an ebook version of this book from the author. Thank you Wynne Channing!
What if you were destined to cause the extinction of the entire vampire race?
Axelia is your average seventeen year old girl. She's on her way home when she gets lost but luckily (or maybe not) a boy named Paolo helps her find her way home. Later that night she sneaks out of the house to go see him but instead of a romantic date, Paolo tries to kill her. This leads to Axelia accidentally falling into a well while she was trying to get away from him. Later she emerges from the well as a vampire but she's not a normal vampire. The Monarchy believes that she is the vampire from the prophecy so they are determined to hunter her down and kill her. While on the run Axelia meets Lucas, he helps her escape from the Monarchy numerous times while Axelia is still getting used to being a vampire.
It took me only three chapters to get into this book. By the fourth one I was hooked. What Kills Me was a nice break from the normal vampire books. It was really entertaining and it had almost nonstop action while Axelia and Lucas were running from the Monarchy.
Axelia is an extremely loyal character who would do almost anything to help Lucas and her friends. I really liked reading the action scenes. I could picture everything that was happening so clearly in my mind and it was refreshing to read about a heroine who actually could defend herself. I also really liked reading about Lucas and Axelia. It was a little bit frustrating when they didn't really acknowledge their feelings for each other until the end. But I also liked how she didn't immediately like him and how it took some time for her to actually grow feelings for him and she didn't obsess over him.
My only complaint is that there isn't a sequel yet. Please someone tell me there is a sequel!
