Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up as part of a military family and spent the first eleven years of my life wandering the world, rarely staying in one place for more than six months to a year. This gave me a much wider and far more open perspective on life, along with a wealth of diverse experiences beyond that of the majority of children of my age, all of which rewarded my fertile and vivid imagination with a rich store of material to draw upon.
When did you first start writing?
My first recollection of writing, beyond scribbled repetitions of my own name, was around the age of six when I began making up my own little fantasy worlds, usually alien societies filled with weird animals. As I grew older I became more interested in detective and cowboy stories and wrote a series of western tales that I used to take into school and read to others in my class during the breaks.
