The Worm Guy

Biography

I am a worm farmer from South Africa. I am very passionate about vermiculture. I started composting with a few worms as a hobby and this soon grew into a business. I currently sell products such as vermicompost, worm tea, bait worms, other fishing products from my farms and also worm farms to gardeners, fisherman, tropical fish and exotic bird breeders and people wanting to start their own business. I sell direct to the public and are also in any retail stores. My passion is worm farming and helping others achieve success. Through years of tests and trial and error I have put together the simplest ways to be successful at worm farming. A lot of my success is also based on my selling and marketing strategies and will soon publish my e-book on this.

Smashwords Interview

Where you always involved in farming?
No, I grew up in the city. Part of our upbringing is going fishing. My dad loves fishing so as children me and my brother always went with. I think this is where I first met earthworms although at the time it was only bait to catch me fish. My career was in sales and sales management in the construction Industry.
How and why did you start earthworm farming?
I wanted to start my own business and had no idea what to do. I started investigating opportunities and came across a guy selling earthworms on Facebook. I thought "What, earthworms, I can dig them out of my garden!" So I started investigating. I soon realized that the worms in my garden is not composting worms, vermicomposting is big in the US, Australia and Europe but basically non-existent in South Africa. Hence the idea to start small and learn while keeping my day job.
