Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
The world I grew up in motivated me to become an author. I grew up with computers, I think I've been online since 1995. I was a gamer, blogger and social networker long before Call of Duty, Blogger and Myspace. Long before a content generation online was profitable and trendy. But that world was full of rich narratives; clever game plots, interesting blog posts, inspiring message boards in the 90s - all of this trained me to appreciate good stories and to write my own. Even if at times they are only 140 characters long.

I wrote my first book, a sword and sorcery fantasy story, back in high school. It was supposed to be part of a trilogy but I only managed to write two books before I got to college. It's been sitting unfinished for like 15 years now. But that's where it all started, and perhaps when I finish the third book that will be where it all ends.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I'm an introvert by nature - my work has made me an ambivert at best. I love to be reclusive and stuck in my thoughts, I hate having to speak to people. Strange considering the career path I've chosen.

When I write that's the one time that I feel totally comfortable communicating. I feel like I have the time to really express what I want to say without the pressure of being face-to-face or seeing your contact "Online". I can tweak a line over a day or rethink a point of view or plot line after a month - you can't do that with instant communication.

I think I'm the truest version of me in my writing, unapologetic, direct, a funny and vulnerable.
