DART is set on a colonized planet a few hundred years into the future. The human colonists are divided between those who focus on terra-forming the planet (the "Formers") and those who have gone native (the "Sylth"). They have interesting, sometimes combative, sometimes deeply collaborative interactions with the native flora and fauna as well as with the AIs (Artificial Intelligences) who have the same status in this future scenario as humans. Darthanil "Dart" Black has never been one to commit to any cause but his own. Set up for a fall by his enemies, he ends up having to sort out the mess caused by these conflicts. Quick with a joke, quicker with a blade, handicapped by a fear of heights and a stubborn sense of honor, he's a character that I hope readers will find entertaining. From a 'technical' perspective, the book has been carefully written as a 'page turner'. Each chapter is relatively short ( 2000-2500 words) and ends with a hook into the next. My beta readers have consistently completed the book within a day or two - so it seems to work!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My first novel, 'Half Moon' was published by an Australian Publishing House (in 2011) - but it took a long time to get there. When I finished 'DART' it was apparent to me that Indie Publishing had progressed enormously in the last few years, making it a much more attractive proposition in terms of getting the book "out there" quickly.
Ever have one of those days when just about everyone you meet tries to kill you?
DART is a fast-paced SF action story set on a colonized world. It's a great read for those who like their SF to make them think a little about the challenges of the future - with more than a touch of humor along the way.
