Tim Stead

Biography

Tim Stead was Born in the UK, lived in Hong Kong, London, Hampshire, and eventually moved to New Zealand.

He wasted many years not writing, but now has the time to devote to it. He has written seven books, three of which are available on Amazon and Smashwords (The Sparrow and the Wolf trilogy). The first two are now available on Createspace. The others will follow.

He writes fantasy because it is so open to the imagination, which is half the fun, and also because it permits exagerated explorations of humanity and all its excesses.

He is a former avid scuba diver, a former beekeeper, and a very poor skiier, archer and fencer.

Torn between reading and writing, but writing is winning.

He now spends most of his time writing, reading, planting trees, cutting them down and cutting them up, and trying to persuade people to read his books.

Smashwords Interview

Who are your favorite authors?
There are so many, and for me it is books that stand out more than authors. I was started down this road by Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light, and so many of his books are influences. I enjoy Robin Hobb, Pat Rothfuss, George Martin, Naomi Novik, Michelle Sagara, and further back such SciFi luminaries as Alfred Bester, Ursula LeGuin, CJ Cherryh - and more. I like Anthony Burgess, Charles Dickens, Conan Doyle, William Kotzwinkle, Patrick O'Brian, Iain Banks (with and without the 'M'), Neil Gaiman, Jack London, TH White, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Alexander McCall-Smith. The list is not endless, but it's certainly very long.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Actually I like to write in bed, so it's usually the need for breakfast that gets me up. That period between waking and eating is one of my most productive.
