This book caught my attention immediately, a man alone in a strange world, in the dark. I originally was reading each chapter as it was available for download, and so far have gotten to 14. I am completely hooked. Mr. James' descriptions of the events and places is so detailed, that I can see them myself, and I feel as if I am there. There are plenty of interesting monsters, and some that will surprise you, along with zombies, ghosts, and an unexplainable "hole". A doubling of horror and suspense... You just have to read to get the full effect, but once you start, you will not be able to put it down.
I read this after I read Diary of the Displaced, and so I knew that it was actually a pre-quel to the bokk, however it could easily have been it's own separate story. Mr. James has a way of making me feel like I am standing with the characters throughout the stories, and when I reach the last page, I just know that it's not the end.
I do recommend reading this book AFTER Diary of the Displaced, but if you choose to read it first, I don't feel that it will take anything away from either story.
This book was absolutely wonderful! While it goes side by side with "Diary of the Displaced", it is in total it's own story.
The descriptions are so vivid I could picture myself with the characters, seeing what they see.
I can't wait for the next book!
