When did you first start writing?
I've been writing since I was a child. I would fill exercise books with stories which my sister would read. I love writing, but as I became older, like many authors, my writing was a hobby and I wasn't encouraged to develop it into a career. I studied at university and gained a BA (Hons) in Business and Marketing, then I worked in Marketing for over 15 years. However, the desire to write full-time never left me. In 2010, when my daughters were 4 and 2 years old, I went back to university to gain a MA in Creative Writing. I have since published 3 fiction books, 3 wedding books and 2 inspirational books, and I'm loving my writing career.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
While studying for my MA in Creative Writing, self-publishing was discouraged. I was extremely unsettled by this as I'm a big believer in following dreams. There is so much opportunity for indie authors to become just as popular as authors publishing the traditional way it seems the obvious route for me. I follow Joanna Penn (who runs the creative penn website) and Lindsay Buroker, they have great websites that encourage self-publishing, and I feel sites like theirs have definitely helped me.
