Cartoons always fascinated me.Shanker,Ahmad,Patel with their cartoons cast a lasting impression on me in my formative years.Later on, Laxman's cartoons inspired me. I,therefore, took up cartoon making as my hobby after retirement from ONGC to prove that post retirement period can indeed be fruitfully utilized.
In 1955,i obtained cartoons making course from "Santhanam's Chitra Vidyalayam, Madras (now Chennai)". Their observation about my cartoons "....your creative ability is very much appreciated" gave a shot in my arm. I am also immensely grateful to Shri Khushwant Singh, journalist, for his observations and suggestions on my cartoons in my early days of working on them.Letter from Shri PC Sen,Chairman, Air India, in 1977, with the words "i found them interesting and amusing. I do hope you will keep it up" boosted my spirits. in 1999, letter from Home Minister LK Advani's office about my cartoons "....worth seeing" and good wishes from Sir Mark Tully, freelance journalist, in 2003 as well as from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's office in 2004 acted as tonic for me. The letters from Sri Jaswant Singh (BJP),leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, in 2007 and 2008 under his own signatures with the words "....very interesting indeed" and "....those interesting cartoons", call for special mention. I am greatly indebted to each one of them for their words of encouragement at various stages of my progress in drawing cartoons. Without their good wishes and encouragement i would never have been able to make any headway in my work. However, the purpose of my cartoons will be served only if they manage to deliver the message contained in them effectively. I do not know how far i have achieved my aim but here are some of them from my collection for all to see.
