With Robert as the author and Joyce as editor/publisher, so began this married couple's sojourn into the fascinating world of writing. Joyce Sandilands and J. Robert Whittle soon became household names with their fans as they successfully Indie published their first novel in Dec. 1998 setting off a chain reaction with readers that continues today. Since then, they have written and published a total of 10 novels, 3 of them with Joyce as Robert's co-author. Joyce also wrote two delightful children's chapter books in the Moonbeam Series, with self-narrated audio books. Robert has 3 bestselling novels and together they won two IPPY (Independent Publisher) Gold Medals for Loyalty's Haven (2007) and Whispers Across Time (2008). Many of their multi-generational fans claim these books are the best they have ever read. Their most recent novel, Silent Destiny, set in modern Scotland, was published in 2014.

Writing and producing one book/year plus two additional audio products over the first 12 years to appease fans, the duo soon discovered the best way to sell their books was exactly as they were doing it ... at local tourist and craft markets and Christmas fairs where they could meet and talk to potential fans.

Whittle, often complimented for his pleasant accent, in 2003 narrated the audio book of his bestselling "Lizzie: Lethal Innocence." Then in 2005, he narrated an autobiographical CD. He had received countless requests for his own story from fans who had often heard him tell vignettes at his market table.

Along the way, internet sales and, since 2010, ebooks have aided in their marketing efforts. Robert's countless thousands of worldwide fans claim his style as unique by modern standards. His family friendly novels are also claimed by countless fans to be the “best page-turning books they have ever read.” Robert turned 83 years young in 2016 and, although he is slowing down, he still is not ready to retire. He loves meeting the public and selling books at his market stand in Bastion Square, Victoria BC and will continue as long as he is able.
