I knew that this was primarily a romance novel and although I don't read many of these books, I decided to give this one a chance.
And I was pleasantly surprised. I had to shut off my brain just so I wouldn't start nit picking everything and I quite enjoyed it. The world Serena lives in is harsh and I'm glad that no punches were pulled when describing the sort of treatment that women receive. The romance was nice and even though there wasn't much of a plot, I can't say that i was bored. I did have a problem with world building as I couldn't figure out what the countries was supposed to be like so I had to fill in the blanks myself. I also had a problem with some of the language that was used because it sometimes seemed modern but the tone of the book was generally more formal?
I still liked the book even with its lack of real substance. I would not be opposed to reading the next book.
