Zoe Winters writes quirky and sometimes dark paranormal romance and fantasy.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I always wanted to write but I'm a bit of a control freak and don't play well with others when they are trying to control my work. I knew from the beginning that while I care very much about quality control, having someone else (in the sense of a publisher) jumping in to try to micromanage my work (titles, covers, whether or not I'd write in series, what I would write next, whether or not I could write competing works or the same characters without the publisher's permission, how fast I could write and publish, etc.) was just never going to work for me.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has been a godsend when it comes to distribution mostly. Outside of many of the major outlets where you can go direct, there is definitely a benefit to using Smashwords as a distributor for the outlets you either can't reach on your own directly or don't want to bother with.
