There are many ways to control a person - tie them down, bind their limbs, hood them, take their vision. But there are other, more insidious ways, to adjust a subject's world, to make them more compliant, more dependent. Modern technology allows many tools to enable this control - altering GPS directions to shift subjects where they are needed, shock collars to train them into best behaviour, all sorts of cleverly designed remote-controlled devices to punish or please, augmented reality headsets to ensure that they only see what they need to see, and can be plunged into darkness on a whim. These stories detail such devices, and their subjects they are used on.
