Reviews of Undeniable Rogue,(The Rogues Club: Book One)

by
Widow Sabrina Whitcomb needs a husband and knows that romance and matrimony aren't always compatible. While providing for her children is paramount, wedding a stranger—even a wealthy one like Gideon St. Goddard, Duke of Stanthorpe—is no light matter. So why did the shockingly handsome rogue agree to marry her? When Gideon flashes his wicked, seductive smile, the reason hardly matters.

Improbable plot but that goes with the genre. The duke takes everything in stride. Nice find as a free book.

As someone else said, the plot was improbable, but that is traditional fare for a regency romance. No, the problem here was - unfortunately - the writing.

There is so much exposition, so much of the author telling you that the characters are in love, that by the end of the first chapter, you're fairly screaming for proof. There also seems to have been a lack of editing because points of view and plot lines switch unpredictably. I had to go back through certain sections several times to figure out what was happening. The rhetoric is also rather nauseating. Descriptive phrases are repeated too often and too dramatically. Really, there is very little to care about in the beginning and the author makes it sound as though the "hero" is already going through some live-changing catharsis.

Overall, it's free. But even then, I couldn't get more than halfway through. With more work, it could be better.

The plot seemed interesting/exciting enough, but the storytelling... There was too much "telling." For me, the writing style distracts rather than enhances the story. I couldn't finish it.
