** spoiler alert ** Loved this book!
the book is about people belonging to a city that is the first line of defense for humans. If the werewolves ever tried to take over the human empire, this would be where the first battle would take place. Naturally, the people living in such a place have to be extraordinary-always alert and ready to defend. Add to that a king who would do anything to ensure his people's survival and warriors who worship him. Could it be more awesome?Yes, it can. The king not only wants to win every war, he also plans to make the werewolves fear him and his warriors. The tricks and maneuvers that the king uses to instill fear in the werewolves are just.. wow! Then there is Cada Varl- the coolest immortal you'll ever read about. He's the best and yet he never gloats but just goes on being his rockin' self! And of course, the 6 Helluvan warriors (poor 7th best warrior) were just helluva adventure!

This is an original and excellent story that is a new take on the werewolf. In How Gods Bleed Shane Porteous has rejected the clichés of fantasy, horror, action and werewolf tales, creating his own story. The characters are expertly written and developed as is the mythology and the overall concept of the story.

Though this ebook is free I have enjoyed it better than most ebooks that I have read. Shane Porteous is not trying to emulate any other author and it really does show for the reader is both kept excited and wondering where this fantastic story is going to go next.

If you’re looking for the same old story than look elsewhere, however if you want to read an ebook that is different and has an identity all of its own, than this is without a doubt the book for you.

Thousands of years after Cada Varl unwittingly sired the vicious werewolves and became an immortal he believes he has found a way to destroy them all. The way is dangerous, so he travels into the heart of werewolf territory with six of the finest warriors from the country of Helluv and hopes he can carry out his plan before the werewolves figure out what he is doing.

First, the concept of this story is sound and I liked it. It is what I refer to as a ‘Lord of the Rings’-type story where someone or several people set out on a quest or mission in order to save or protect the world at large. I like to read about the journey, the hardships conquered, the friendships formed and the battles that must be fought.

However, the writing needs some heavy editing. Punctuation is missing, paragraphs sometimes were two pages or more long and sentences were awkwardly worded or stilted.

This would be a wonderful story if it had a lot of polishing and fine-tuning done to it.

How Gods Bleed is a Dark fantasy action tale that tells the story of Cada Varl the Immortal, a man who lost his humanity and was the source of creation for the werewolf. After more than 4,000 years the lands of man to the east are in serious danger of being invaded by the werewolf empire. Cada Varl , along with 6 warriors from Helluv journey into the west for a chance to save the east from utter destruction.

This is a powerfully original read and is without a doubt the best ebook that I have ever read. How Gods Bleed is a story unlike anything that I have ever read and the author should be praised for his immense talent and skill in crafting his created world. From the very first page to the very last page I was captivated into this dark brilliant world, instantly drawn to its cast of unique and unforgettable characters, who are without a doubt the strongest component of this great story. Unlike a lot of fantasy stories How Gods Bleed is not weighed down by its mythology and is far more driven by its characters.
I think I have gotten my point across, How Gods Bleed is definitely a 5 star book!

This is an original and unique werewolf story that follows Cada Varl and six Helluvian warriors as they trek into the depths of the Werewolf kingdom to destroy the Werewolf race once and for all. It is an entertaining and original read but I found the story got a little lost in the rather over the top epic battles that constantly cropped up. The mythology and worlds that Porteous has created are superb in themselves and the characters are really well written with the balance between their warrior and human sides written superbly. However this skill is over-whelmed by the numerous battles that are fought and the sheer time and detail that these are given. Personally I would have prefered a bit more tension and anticipation rather than a battle every other chapter. Overall though a fairly enjoyable read and if you like epic action, you'll love this.

Excuse my language here but “Holy Sh*t” that is what I thought after reading this book. It is awesome in every sense of the word, originality, excellent mythology, interesting characters, epic fights, unpredictable twists and a main character whose traits and identity hasn’t been done to death. Definitely a 5 star book!

What I love the most about this book is it can be taken in two ways. On the one hand it can be taken as a great actioner with over-the-top (but immensely entertaining) fights and larger than life characters. On the other hand it can be taken as an exploration of all ranges of human emotion and mentality. I know how strange that might sound but it is true. How Gods Bleed accomplishes both flawlessly and regardless of either way you take it this is marvelously written story that you should remember long after you have finished reading it.

In How Gods Bleed Shane Porteous flawlessly tells his story like a master blacksmith forging the world’s finest sword. The main character of this excellent tale is Cada Varl the Immortal, a soldier of the forgotten kingdom of Gatavoi. He is the sole survivor of the battle of Marga, but because of the atrocities he witnessed over the course of the battle he lost his humanity and was set upon by hungry wolves. These wolves became cursed by his inhumanity and as they attacked more and more humans they infected their victims. This is the origin story for the werewolves in How Gods Bleed, simple yet inarguably very clever.

From the very first word to the very last word the reader is fully immersed and captivated into a darkly brilliant world. This story is not generic or shallow, it is deep and highly original with twists and revelations that you will never see coming. I look forward to reading this book many, many more times.

This is perhaps the most original werewolf story ever written. It certainly is the most original one that I have ever read. It really is amazing to think that someone could actually tell an original story involving the werewolf, considering just how many millions of stories have been written about them.

Don't let the fact that this book is free make you think that it must be rubbish, because it is the best e-book I have ever read, free or otherwise. From page one the story starts at a fast action pace, drawing the reader into this brilliant story from the very first moment.

The cast of characters of How Gods Bleed are superbly interesting from Cada Varl the Immortal, the warrior who lost his humanity and was the cause for the werewolves, to Granzool, the human king so dark and brutal that even werewolves fear him.

The world that this story is told in, is vast, rich and interesting, the werewolves are far more than mere monsters, they have their own rich history along with their own mythology. While the mythology is highly entertaining this is a character driven story, preventing the reader from being wieghed down by pages and pages of mythology.

There is no predicatability whatsoever keeping you guessing and highly enthralled with each turn of the page. The revelations that show themselves through the story simply get better and better.

The battles scenes and duels are magnificent, making the reader almost feel like they were right there watching as two godly forces were locked in fierce combat.

Enthralling, brutal, original and unforgettable. How Gods Bleed, is undoubtedly a 5 star book
