About Petrea Burchard

Petrea Burchard's novel, "Camelot & Vine," draws on the legend of King Arthur as well as Petrea's Hollywood acting career. She's best known as the voice of Ryoko the space pirate in the anime classic, "Tenchi Muyo!" "Act As If," her long-running humor column about the journeyman actor's life, will soon be published in book form. Burchard's short story, "Portraits," leads the line-up in "Literary Pasadena: The Fiction Edition," now in paperback. Other writing includes essays, journalism, and short fiction.

Petrea lives in an old house in southern California with her husband and their willful dog, Wilma.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short story. It's humorous, jarring, and moving. A peek into someone's intolerable pain, the consequences of loss—both funny and angst-filled—and the attempt to address and move forward.

Very touching ~ so much conveyed in so few words, and with a message of hope.

A touching story on a sensitive subject. So much has been conveyed in so few words, and it left me with hope.

Beautifully written with excellent scene-setting. Deep in meaning and a lovely ending. I think it could have been a little longer (the ending, that is).

Lovely flash fiction story. Sad and poignant with the promise of renewal at the end. Sweet.
