The Island - The Final Chapters

Rated 4.78/5 based on 9 reviews
The old radio at the station had poured out haunting images of a dying world from the first day. Through it, the tiny group hunkered down at the Village of Portsmouth, bore witness to the death of millions.

Hounded by an evil he didn't understand, William Hill struggled to survive.

The evil had other plans. It wanted his blood.

This time, it had a face. This time it offered a deal. More

About Michael R Stark

Trying to figure out when I started writing is like trying to decide when I started walking. The stories have always been there, rummaging around in my mind. Some went on paper. Most didn’t. I wrote my first novel when I was 22. Thankfully, I left it to the dustbin of history where it shall always remain.

Imagine the grin, yes, it was that bad.

As for influences on my latest story, The Island, that one has been up there banging away in my head for a long time. Parts of it were told at bedtime. Though honestly, those who heard the parts wouldn't recognize them in the story. By the time we get to the second book in this series, they will find some recognizable moments. They'll also probably be upset that the adventure turned into something of a horror story.

Ahh, well, most of them are old enough now to read it for what it is.

I grew up in North Carolina, which is why part of the story is set there. I’ve been to exotic parts of the world, many countries, and most states. None of them I know as well as the one I called home for most of my life. It makes it easy to write about it, and the people in it.

I hope you enjoy the stories.

I downloaded the first 3 books free while surfing for something to read. I've done this many times and not read everything. However this I loved. I was hooked from the first paragraph. I've read many apocalyptic stories. This was different in that it was shorter, less detailed yet character driven from the beginning. Not too much detail on the fever and it's spread but centring around William and others on the island. You cared about them. I wondered how he would come to a satisfactory conclusion in such a short book(s) but he did. I enjoyed it so much the second I'd finished the first 3 I went online and bought the last 2 for a paltry $2. Now I'm hanging out for The Rock!

Michael Stark really knows how to write a book. However, of the series, this book was my least favorite. Too many new characters and plots introduced too near the end, and too many old characters lost without fanfare, thus resulting in 4 of 5 stars. Still, I will continue to read this series and follow Michael Stark because the man knows how to tell a tale.

I was hooked mid-way through the second book in 'the island' series. Well written and easy reading. I've read dozens of free books and (although the last two books in the series have a small charge applied) this one is up high on quality! Very well done Michael, I hope you will be writing a sequel to 'the island'. Big thumbs up!

What a story!!! A very visual piece of writing. It kept me wondering how it would end. And there if failed. The hero walks off into the sunset and I'm still wondering how it would end. Still it was worth 4 stars. I'm looking forward to Stark's next book.

Well written, well edited.
