Having known Jim my entire life I was not surprised to see him compose such a business savvy compilation of real world knowledge and experiences. What I did find very refreshing is the ability of his message to transcend many industries and enterprises. This is a must read for anyone looking to avoid 'learning things the hard way'.

I read business books. McKay, Welch, Porter, Collins, etc. What I like about Jim's book is it's practicality for me, the small business owner and leader. There is actionable information in this book that I haven't seen from the above authors or for that matter, from B school. I have learned much of what Jim writes about, the hard way. I plan to teach small business when I retire in 10-15 years at a local college and this will be required reading for my students. I wish I would had this book 5 years ago when I assumed the ownership role of my company- but I do now :)

I give this book a 5 star rating in addition to my comments below. I would give it 10 stars but the rating only goes to 5.

This is the best business book I have ever read. Jim does an excellent job addressing just about every facet of running a business. As the owner and CEO of my previous company, I made most of the mistakes Jim mentions in his book. So I could read each chapter and know with certainty that Jim is spot on in his description of that particular topic. Having made those mistakes and lived through many of the situations Jim described in his book, I can honestly say I will use Jim's book as the foundation for running my next business.

All those hundreds of ideas and experiences are now in one place. Thanks Jim for putting all of your lessons in one book. Again, this is the best road map for running a successful business I have ever seen.

As Jim's banker, I read the book from cover to cover and found the lessons incredibly salient in today's business world. Not a book to put on the shelf but rather a reference guide to be used frequently by anybody in business.
