This is a very entertaining read that had me on the edge for a long long time. I usually don't fancy books that try to contain more then 2 genres and this book certainly has elements of horror, mystery, paranormal, fantasy...but,(Thankfully) the author manages to pull all these different strands together into one heck of a compelling read.

Real, rich and believable characters makes this book so much easier to read and follow. I enjoyed it tremendously and I look forward to his next work!

Next please!
Just finished this book and I have to say that it has been undoubtedly the best book I’ve read in a while. Recommended to me by a friend I started reading it online first and when I got so absorbed by the story that I wouldn’t leave the computer I had to change things .
It’s the perfect blend between mystery, thriller, occult, fantasy and it kept me on edge from the beginning till the end. The very elaborate way in which the characters and surroundings are being depicted had me transported in a grim scenario where human kind is in danger of extinction (much like Stephen King’s “Black house”) by the hands of Satan himself.
The story develops around and about Tim Anderson, a gifted man, a warrior in the battle against Evil, as visualized by the headmaster of the Pelagius Order.
This book will have you standing on edge with the many plot twists and waiting forward for the other two books that promise to keep the same adventurous pace and thrilling story line.

Well Written, Engaging & Imaginative

As a debut novel for R.J. Jerome, Valstain is the kind of promising start to an exciting career as a writer. The author weaves a truly entertaining story of epic battles, evil, conspiracies, Heaven, secret orders and one man's struggles to right the wrongs done to him and stave off the apocalyptic danger right around the corner.

The novel is well written with strong dialogue, authentic characters that makes you care about them, vivid imagery that paints each scene perfectly and a strong plot that never ceases to keep you on your toes. When I was reading this I kept on thinking that the novel couldn't be this good and it was somehow going to disappoint me, but as I got to the end and wanted more I realized that I was now a big fan of R.J. Jerome as an author.

It was a bit of a disappointment that the next book in the series isn't out yet, but I'll keep eagerly waiting for it's release because The Pelagius Game is a unique and imaginative series that needs more attention for how good it is.

This is the first time I’ve ventured over to Smashwords and I was more than pleased with this book.

I knew I had made an awesome selection within the first couple pages and I’ll look forward to reading more by this author.

The story is cloaked in mystery from the start. I also liked that the author backtracked a bit so we could understand Tim a bit more and see what makes him tick.

When a mysterious visitor shows up and tells Tim he has been accepted at a prestigious seminary and that in an envelope is a winning lottery ticket for his father, you know this isn’t the average fantasy story.

The story unfolds into a thrill packed ride with just the right amount of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat and glued to this book.

Great read! I’ll be back for more books by this author.

R.J. Jerome has created a wonderful world, a fantastic realm at the edge between heaven and hell. Filled with creatures of darkness that shape the land and spread the wickedness all around, the realm of Valstain is the perfect setting for Tim to carry out his destiny.

I'm bound to continue reading this book and can't wait to read the sequel as well.

A new fan here!

This is a fascinating religious Fantasy. I very much appreciated the fact that the author took the time to craft a good story that made sense. I never had the feeling that any of the characters were contrived or cliched even thought the good vs evil and God vs Satan was the thematic premise.

The research the author did with setting was obvious in the narrative and the novel itself is well written and well edited. I appreciated the fact the the author got right down to business without three chapters of setting description.

While this is a longer book than I normally read (I usually read short mysteries) the pacing and the dialogue was just right. I never felt like there was a boring middle to get through.

I could easily recommend this book to any Fantasy reader. Adding R.J. Jerome to my lists of favorites here as I would certainly read this author again.

The story composition is superb which was exciting to read. Anyone who enjoys fantasy and secret societies with twists, I would definitely suggest them to read this book.

The book is full of mystery and adventures, so that i can easily disappear in it. Valstain is a unique creation which includes some sword fighting to take a revenge to the betrayers. Overall, had a great time with this book.

I have to admit that as soon as I read the cover for the novel I was immediately intrigued; I have a fondness for novels that mix fantasy aspects with religious concepts, so "Valstain" was right up my alley. Once starting the book I was swept up in the world of secret orders and fantastical concepts where Timothy Anderson is the only hope of saving everyone from deepseeded plots endanger them all, if only he can get to that middle ground between Heaven and Earth known as Valstain.

The novel is well-written, fantastical without being overblown, imaginative with a truly engaging engaging plot, has a wealth of fully fleshed-out characters and overall, entertains the reader from the very first page to the last. R.J. Jerome did a wonderful job of bringing this novel together to create a wonderful novel that really sucked me in and didn't let go until the end; I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Tim did next, if his efforts to convince Father Michael would be enough, etc. It was a great introduction to the author as a writer and certainly piqued my interested in the rest of the series.

"Valstain" was an excellent book. Captivating from page one, it was hard to put down. I found myself quickly reading through it to see what happens next. I had to force myself to stop reading so fast and just read a little bit at a time in order to properly digest it.

The story line was exciting, anyone who enjoys religious end time books, secret societies, and plenty of twists and turns will really enjoy this one.

"Valstain" definitely had a unique aspect, different from your typical end-of-the-world tales. The story line is complex enough to keep you thinking but not so over-the-top that you get lost, a perfect balance.

Can't wait for book 2!

Impressive writing by Jerome. The Pelagius Game’ is such a great fantasy book which started with the nice intro. Valstain is introduced in this book who is basically the realm within Heaven & Earth. How Valstain continued the journey of his life through Timothy Anderson, it is nicely organized in this book. Revenge to the betrayers made the entrance to this holy ground.

After a read, I must highly recommend this book for having a great fantasy adventure taste. Nice job done by the author. It has plenty of sword fights, vibrant characters and intricate plot twists - which made this book more than perfect to me. I enjoyed this adventure so much. Impressive!

R.J. Jerome has really outdone himself in this one, he has blended to types of genres into one solid work. Whether you’re religious or not, you will find that the worlds of fantasy and Biblical history do come alive in a tale that is full of adventure, mystery, and twists that you may not see coming. I found the work compelling and full of life.

From the start of the narrative, you will get hooked, and this is only the beginning. Timothy Anderson is well written, the setting is worth looking into, and there are a lot of religious undertones that resonate with the reader long after you’ve stopped. Creating a magical tapestry in this way is very much like C.S. Lewis or Tolkein, as the characters play out very much like those latter writers. This is definitely more than just about any one of the given subjects, you’ll find a great deal of introspective characters, themes and an easy to follow story that has more depth than meets the eye.
