My Kevin is my first read of author Bronwyn Heeley whom I got to 'meet' one day in a Facebook party. The party was fun, the company was fun, but I was ashamed to admit: I had never read any of Ms Heeley's books. First task on my list was to go to Smashswords and download her work.

My Kevin is a free ebook and really, that should scare a lot of people including myself as I have downloaded quite a few (a whole freaking lot!) and always found myself disappointed except for a distinctive few. I was not only surprised about how good this work was, I found myself smiling from start to finish reading this short, short, shorty light read. Why so short? Well, it's only 24 pages. Why so scared? Well, it's only 24 pages.

What I got to read was one of the sweetest romance between two men who fell in love with each other way back when they were yay high. Yay high because these two men had loved each other since Kindy. Jimmy recalls how he met and got to be besties with Kevin, the boy next door who loved to express his love for Jimmy the way his parents did: he kissed them. On that first day when Jimmy cried over something, it was Kevin who kissed his hurt away. When Jimmy's dad got cruel, it was Kevin who hugged him and made him calm down.

Their story goes on all the way to when they had some bit of drama in high school before both boys finally faced their love for each other. Since then, well officially, they were together. Forever. The story ends in the best ever way that could only be called sweet. It was a fulfilling and totally satisfying read.

This is a very short read and I finished this in under ten minutes. But let me tell you something: it was one of the best reads I ever encountered. And this is a Free book!

Note: the highest rating I give for a free short light read is always: 4 Stars.

Kevin was Jimmy’s neighbor. Kevin had a G/F for 2 yrs.
Jimmy had an excellent great memory. His parents were neat/clan freaks.
The 2 kissed. Mom had known for quite some time but his father found out & made derogatory remarks to Jimmy.
Beth French kissed Jimmy.
Jimmy’s dad cheated on his mother & was leaving, Jimmy still had mixed feelings for his dad.
The boys were very confused with/about their sexuality, what next?

As a former crisis/school social worker this brought back a lot of memories of working with a diverse group: GLBT? & what they struggle with on a daily basis.

Wow, a very well written heart felt story (book). Easy to read/follow, never a dull moment. No grammar errors, repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Great scenario & a groups of characters. This could make a very great movie or the beginnings of a TV series. Very easy for me to give the short story (book) 5 stars.

Thank you for the free book
