This is a nice reading novel for younger adults and even older like to read it even though it is kind of obvious what most probably will happen. It is easy written language and the idea of the book as well interesting. Reminds you in some ideas of the Narnia books. Characters have depth which makes it good. For sure a book worthwhile to read.

This book was a gift for my son, so I decided to read it with him. Wow! This book has so many levels to the story! It was exciting, scary, humorous and touching. My son enjoyed the unusual characters, magic and otherworlds. For me, the messages behind the story are compelling, and not something you see in many other books.
I would say that the style of writing is very descriptive, which some people may find difficult, but I loved as it had a romantic, dark and dreamy quality. It really made me imagine the feelings and surroundings of the characters and added to the intensity of the story. The visual impression it left of the otherworld and the central characters lives, is striking on many levels.
As a parent, I would recommend this book for tween readers, around 10 and older, as the plot is quite complex and the story can be scary in places. I would also recommend this book for adults who enjoy fantasy.
The illustrations included are incredible and make the story all the more vivid. A lot of care went into this book and it shows!

Awesome book! My mum gave me this book so I didn't read it for ages, then got bored one day and decided to give it a go. Glad I did! The world described is really magical and I really felt part of the story. It gave me goosebumps but some of the characters also made me laugh. My character fave is Giddeon. I couldn't wait to see what happens but also didn't want the story to end. Thumbs up for this one!!

I really enjoyed this book. The poetic and eerie style of writing is spellbinding, while the intricate plot keeps you turning the pages. The illustrations were a wonderful surprise that added to the enchanting experience. Anyone who likes the tone of 'Twilight' but the adventure and plot of 'Harry Potter' and 'The Golden Compass' will enjoy this novel.

I love how this author combines science and magic with the mystery of ancient civilizations. Ancient languages, quotes and spells have even been included which brings this story to life. The eerie and poetic tone really draws you in and there are lots of twists and turns. The beautifully detailed illustrations add to the haunting, magical quality. I'll be looking out for book II!
