This trilogy is one of those that you want to read from beginning to end without stopping.

The storyline is fantastic and flows seamlessly from one book to the next. The plot is well thought out, with great twists and turns throughout, and I loved the multi-dimensional characters.

I really enjoyed theses books, and am looking forward to reading the first book of the follow-up trilogy, The DeLuca Vampires.

A well-written supernatural series for readers of all ages.

Loved this book!!! It grabbed me from the first page. The great plot, well rounded characters... Maura, what can I say.... I hated her and loved her and back again... Awesome how it keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. Claudette is an author to keep on sight to see what wonders will she deliver in her next books!!!

This book is a must read and you will find yourself not wanting to put it down.

Once I thought I knew what was going to happen there was another twist and turn.

I love the story line of the main character having trouble with her classmates. We have all been in a position at least once in our lives where we feel isolated and left out of the group.

This book will pull you in and leave you wanting more. It has it all.

First I must say I won a free paperback copy of this book from author Claudette Melanson. I did not read the blurb before I got the book so I was not sure what to expect, with that said I really enjoyed this book. It is a refreshing YA story told in the first person by a innocent teenage girl name Maura. Do to her extremely pale skin tone and sensitivity to the sun she is an outcast at school and the victim of a horrible prank that could have killed her if not the handsome senior Ron. Maura starts noticing strange changes to herself like craving blood and her eye color changing and problems with her k9 teeth. I know from the outside looking in I was yelling vampire but if you think about it from her point of view vampires are not real so there is no reason to believe she is turning into one, what she does think is that she is dying and Ron stays by her side through all of this until she has to move away with her mom to Canada, where strange things continue to happen. (I will leave it with that, don't want to spoil the end). This is a great coming of age book and a great build up to the next book in the series with the build up of some characters and the introduction of others (I hope will play a bigger part in the next book). If you want a different kinda of vampire story this is the book for you. Can't wait to read book 2.

Rising Tide: Dark Innocence (The Maura DeLuca Trilogy, #1) Claudette Melanson

Maura has always been a bit of a loner. She doesn't make friends easy, and when she does they tend to just make fun of her, or are out right cruel. Her Mother Caelyn takes a new job in Canada, Maura feels this could be a fresh start and a better life for both of them. She has never know about her father, her Mother never wants to talk about him. This bothers her, and she wants to know more.

The school season is ending and Maura starts to feel different. She does not do well in the sun, she has some sort of allergy, that is what she has been told. She meets a boy named Ron and a few of his friends. Ron accepts her for who she is, his friends as well. Are things finally looking up for Maura? Will she ever find the truth about her father? Will she finally find happiness.

An original story, with a very likable female lead. Maura is different, she is shy, kind, and just wants to fit in. It is hard not to like her. She faces many challenges being a teen and not popular. Having an over protective Mother doesn't help. But I also found Caelyn likable, she has her secrets, but she loves her daughter and will do anything to protect her.

Overall I found Rising Tide: Dark Innocence very enjoyable. The story is well written, with secrets, a bit of young love, and teen problems. I feel those who like a great y/a paranormal/vampire story will enjoy this as well.
