Helene lives in a dystopian world where night lasts for 1000 hours and monsters rule the night. Helene wants to die, the only reason she hasn't killed herself is because of her younger sister Simone.
One night Helene is gets kidnapped by and meets Gabriel. Gabriel, Helene will soon find out is the ruler of the world she lives in. Helene hopes that Gabriel will end her existence. Gabriel has other plans for Helene.
Throughout the book I wondered what was Gabriel's motivation in wanting to restore Helene's desire to live. When his motivation was finally revealed my mind much like Helene's was blown. There are not enough words to describe how great this book was. I loved the ending which I won't spoil for you by hinting at it. Once again Kitty Thomas did not fail to mesmerize me with her story telling.
