Richard Bard draws on his own experiences as a former USAF pilot and cancer survivor to craft compelling characters who risk it all for love and loyalty. Born in Munich, Germany, to American parents, he joined the United States Air Force like his father. But he left the service when he was diagnosed with cancer and learned he had only months to live. He earned a management degree from the University of Notre Dame and ran three successful companies involving advanced security products used by US embassies and governments worldwide. Now a full-time writer, he lives in Redondo Beach, California, with his wife and remains in excellent health.

I got this book after reading a short section of it and knew I was going to have to read it. It was a great deal and even though I haven't finished it yet I can tell you it is one of the best books I have read in a long long time. It has held my interest great and I don't usually like books dealing with some of the things in this one but have loved every word so far and can't wait to find out what happens next and for the sequel.. Great read and I would recommend it to anyone. I am loving it. I hope you write more books soon Richard Bard as I will certainly buy them.

I first encountered this book (and its author) when my interest in the thriller genre led me to The Big Thrill. Richard was offering a deal for those interested in e-book versions, which I gladly accepted. (Other new-to-me authors will surely follow.) The cold war has been replaced by terrorism as the new heart of thrillers, and Brainrush uses that element in a most intriguing story. I don't like to give much away in reviews, but suffice it to say that this story is based on autistic savants and the potential for savants to do amazing things - for good or evil. From California to Venice to Afghanistan, the action is pounding and frighteningly believable. The author's bio explains his intimate knowledge of weaponry, which he uses to full advantage ala Tom Clancy. I was hooked very quickly by this book and it became a "must finish soon" read. I'm delighted to know that Jake's adventures will continue in another book due out in 2012. I'll buy it for sure. Richard Bard is a top-notch author and a force to be reckoned with by fans of super-thrillers.
