Interview with Anandi Baba

Published 2021-09-13.
Your name is Anandi Baba. Are you a hermit?
I was initiated with the hermits of the cremation grounds of Kashi at the age of 25. When someone is initiated he gets a hermit name. The word 'Anandi' denotes happiness. The word 'Baba' denotes a hermit that worships the Lord Shiv. We then believe the name as a path. The name is given by the Guru. The significance being that the new life as a celibate has started with a new name.
What is the learning one has to do to become a Baba?
Well, I spent 21 years learning till the age of 46. I spent long hours in meditation understanding the nature of the universe and the self. I learnt Tantra, Martial Arts and Yoga from wise hermits. I also read a lot of books on these subjects. Most of these books are rare translations. I have passed initiations at various cremation grounds, hermitages and temples. The time of this penance went by like living in a small heaven in my Ashram.
What is Tantra?
Tantra is the union of Shiv and Shakti. Shiv is the male principle and Shakti is the female principle. The path of Tantra is followed in the life of a happily married householder. The base of the path is the Tantric Spells that have to be taken from a Guru. This path is a closely guarded secret.
What is Martial Arts?
The Martial Arts are a path of self-defense and protection. This path has originated from the Buddha. I have learnt Martial Arts from the Ishwara hermits of Shaolin, the Buddhist Lamas of Tibet and the Ninjas of Japan. While some of this path is physical, it really does not make sense till you apply your mind to it. This path is also learnt from the Master that gives you the Mantras. Essentially the path is defined by the 36 Chambers of Shaolin and the non-violence oath.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is being widely misinterpreted as an exercise. The true path of Yoga covers 8 different steps. These steps include the theory of Yoga. Without the theory, Yoga does not have any power. It remains physical only. The path of yoga is essentially a path of concentration and thinking. The concentration fructifies to the state of Samadhi. The end of this path is a state of peace experienced at all times. The base of this path is again the Mantra from an authentic Guru.
How do I become a Guru?
Okay. For becoming a Guru you have to learn directly from a Guru. The Guru Mantra will be given in initiation. You then have to chant the Mantra till the count is complete. Becoming a Guru is a continuum. You become a Guru the instant you get the Mantra. You can then find you own way in the illusory world. The Mantra shows the way.
Is it necessary to become a recluse to do the Mantras?
It is incorrect to become a celibate hermit. The right path is a happily married life where the husband and wife do the penance together. The life of a householder that is complete in all aspects should be led. The life of a hermit is appropriate in rare cases only when foretold by destiny. You should spend your time pursuing earning and religion both in a balanced manner. You should do your penance in your place of right considering it to be a small heaven.
Why did you write books and what are these about?
I have written the books to teach the paths of Tantra, Martial Arts and Yoga. The book on Tantra is in the form of a story while the book on Martial Arts gives all the basics of the path. In both the books I have given the base Mantras. The poetry book is essentially on the images in the mind. All the books will help you learn the paths and will be a good way to relax as well.
What do you do other than writing books?
I teach Tantra, Martial Arts and Yoga for a living. I have many fellow disciples at hermitages across the world. I also have my own hermitage where I was initiated at Kashi. I am hoping to give the Mantras to as many people as possible. Maybe some of you can join my mission.
How did Smashwords help you?
I want to thank Smashwords for publishing my book. With my limited finances it was almost impossible to find a print publisher. I thought I would never be able to publish my books. The eBooks path of Smashwords changed this for me. Samshwords has played an important role in my life. Thank You Smashwords.
Blessing all of you to Nirvana,
Anandi Baba.
