Interview with Bruno Bernier

Published 2014-07-13.
What's the story behind your latest book?
This story was written in my high school years in a much shorter form, in french and with less characters. I thought it was a nice story that i could expand on. So i decided to re-write it to ad more details and characters and this is the result. I am very happy with it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have always wanted to do something in the entertainment world. Movie Director is what i wanted to do. But i am not at the right location to do such things but i still had stories to tell. The next best thing was to sit in front of my computer and write stories. It feels a lot like making a movie and you direct the storyline and destiny of the plot which is very gratifying. Smashwords was the perfect venue to publish the book and get an audience.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
A few days after putting the book on, i already had 45 downloads for the book. I was very surprised to see this and it shows that Smashwords can help you get notices and known.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Playing god. You are literally in control of everything. Its intoxicating to be able to control everything in such a way. I can go in any direction i want without restrictions and its an awesome feeling.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything. They will help you get known. They will love your work and ask you to expand on your work and it motivates you to do so. I want to give as much as i can to them.
What are you working on next?
I have several books idea on the go. I am not sure yet what i want to write about. Writing is a lot like sculpting. You get the big pieces out of the marble piece and oyu keep refining until your done. So writing is in stages and it can take a bit on some projects.
Who are your favorite authors?
James Patterson, Stan lee and others i forget. I am more of a comic book reader than a novel reader.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The alarm clock. Seriously if i have an idea that has been brewing in my mind for a long time. I want to put it on paper so i don't lose the idea. That inspires me to get up and do something.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I play video games. Travel to family and friends.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
All kind of venues. It depends on my interest and what i am looking for.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was a short story again about a bunch of animals trying to do some ecological thing... i actually won a prize for that story. Very proud of it.
What is your writing process?
I think for a long time before i put it on paper. But i have no real method to writing. It just flows out. Most of the "magic" happens in the eidting stages where you try to fix things that don't work and make your story make sense.
