Interview with Carl Damhesel

Published 2014-12-27.
When did you first start writing?
The Beatles and Bob Dylan got me thinking about words when I was pretty young. That started it and I've been playing with them ever since.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm interested in writing, not selling. I'm happy the stories are easily available to anyone interested.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Availability!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The creative process, and getting ideas out there.
Who are your favorite authors?
There are a million of them. Steinbeck, Kerouac, Dickens, all the usual ones.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The day itself. Full of possibilities.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Family, friends, movies, reading and there's usually music playing.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I must have been ten or twelve. It was about a baseball team.
What is your writing process?
If an idea floats in, I let it hang around in my head awhile and once it becomes something, start writing it down.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's Babysitting Socrates and it's about love and choices.
What are you working on next?
Two plays: one with a co-author and one on my own. I also have a longish short story started.
Describe your desk
Medium clutter, dusty in the corners and several coffee stains
