Interview with CDP

What do you read for pleasure?
I like all sorts of books. My favorite books include all of Ellen Hopkins books and John Green's books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
A tablet. I didn't think I would enjoy reading on a device but I got use to it and do enjoy it very much.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Just knowing that you are the creator. You can do anything you want with a story plot and it is yours. There will be people who will love what you write and there will be people who hate it.
What are you working on next?
I am working on the second book to 'The Chained' series. It is set before Battered Butterflies and it explains how things became the way they did.
Who are your favorite authors?
John Green and Ellen Hopkins.
Describe your desk
My desk is everything. It is small notebooks and journals that I keep stashed in my car, it is sticky notes that I write on and forget about. My desk is everything that I have ever jotted an idea down on; the corner of a math test, the back of a doctor appointment card... ect.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The last book I published was Letters of Insanity and it has many stories. It is the heartache of high school. In high school we face a lot of challenges and I don't think adults realize how much weighs on teens. There is a lot of weight on high school students and that is the story behind it.
How did Battered Butterflies come about?
It's hard to explain. It started as many things. It was a dream that I wrote down and I just started playing around with it. I knew I wanted it to be a story but I kept changing things and I couldn't leave character development alone. I actually wrote Battered Butterflies from the ending to the beginning.
Is there anything you wish you had done differently with Battered Butterflies?
Yes and no. I wish I hadn't been so picking and critical about the plot and the characters. I really feel like if I hadn't kept picking at it, then it would have a smoother plot. I also said no because through the whole process of writing it I wanted to kill Damon. I wanted to kill him off at the end instead of having it end the way it did.
What was the first ebook you read and did you like it?
The first ebook I read, i'll never forget, was The Mating by Nicky Charles. It was amazing, I immediately downloaded the rest of the series so I could read them through without stopping. I lost so much sleep during that time. I would defiantly recommend her books to everyone. I drove my sister insane until she read them and she loved them to.
How do you approach cover design?
I let my cover designer take care of that. I try to come up with things but I am not good with the computer so I found that it is better to leave it up to him.
