Interview with Curio Heart

Published 2018-01-17.
What do you read for pleasure?
For the most part, I stick with fantasy and science fiction, with a smattering of horror (especially zombies, thanks to my partner) thrown in for good measure. Mira Grant and RA Salvatore are two of my favorite authors and are a reading staple around the house.
When did you first start writing?
Really, I've been writing since I was a kid, but would only write the occasional story. In high school, I dove into the wonderful world of role-play on Yahoo! Messenger and got my hands on some D&D rulebooks. I started writing to share my work in December 2016.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Honestly, publishing some of my stories has been something floating at the back of my mind for a while. In late 2017, I finally decided that it was time to actually get something published after receiving feedback on Loss in a creative writing class I was taking at the time.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I'd say the process of creating itself. While I love getting feedback on my work, I write because I enjoy writing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I can be found programming, reading, researching, spending time with my family, watching various shows and movies, and playing the occasional game.

After crash-landing while in stasis, an exiled alien wakes up in a wholly unfamiliar place. While trying to focus on the trustworthiness of his apparent rescuers, his mind keeps drifting back to less than an hour earlier, replaying events he'd rather avoid.
