Interview with Destiny Marx

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating new worlds, that's what writing does for me. I taught myself to read before I started school because I loved words and had a vivid imagination. Now it's more than just joy I get from writing but a cathartic release, similar to the feeling you get when you read a engaging book. I get that from writing.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love my fans, though my following is at the moment very small. I want them to get as much enjoyment out of reading my work as I do writing it. If I haven't done that I haven't done my job.
What are you working on next?
Right now I am working on a anthology of Novellas as well as Bittersweet Harmony Book Two. Insatiable Desires is set to be released late in August, its from the genre of my first love. Paranormal fantasy, erotica and adventure, it's been a process to write and I can't wait to share it. Book Two of Bittersweet Harmony moves on to two of Zach's band mates, Travis and Derek, and their forbidden romance with Jackson's sister...I also have another work in progress called tentatively the Shadow King, I am still working through the plot and character development but I am hoping that it will be worthy of a good read.
Who are your favorite authors?
I don't think there's enough space for my favorite authors. I love the classics so I have hundreds of favorite books that I read over and over again. I love Jane Austen, Shelley, Byron, Dumas, Dickens, Tolstoy...the list is endless. Some of my favorite newer authors include Sherrilyn Kenyon, Terry Goodkind...it is really hard to make a choice, I love science fiction, fantasy, I've read and loved the likes of Asimov and Pohl. I lost myself in Tolkien. Just to name a few.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I am usually sleeping or working. I rarely do anything during my free time that isn't writing, editing or formatting. I love to write and I wake up every morning excited to see what other ways I can make my stories better.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
That's an easy one, I usually just search for books to read. I rarely take other people's opinions into account, everyone loves one particular author whom I just can't...so I form my own opinions about the books I read.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, actually it was a short story about my own life at the time. Not as remarkable as anything I've written since though.
What is your writing process?
Process...I don't have a process. I start with a idea and I let it play out like a movie in my head and write it. I went to college for composition and communications, I know how to outline but my brain gets stuck when I outline...so I use a more organic approach. The process isn't as concise as others would like but it works for me, if I am not sure about the direction I take a step back and take a day or two to think it through before proceeding. During that time I occupy myself with my writing hobbies that help me formulate a solution to the issue my characters are facing at that time.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Actually I don't remember it, I was four but it was probably about numbers or letters, I also read a lot of the Sesame street books as a very young child. They made me want to read more, I found a special place within the pages of books and it fed my thirst to read and know more. Now I've read well over 10,000 books in my life.
How do you approach cover design?
I take the basic concept and work with the designer, my vision of what I want is not always possible but we're able to come up with something that works.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I don't know if I could choose, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Hobbit, Pride and Prejudice, The Wizards First Rule and Acheron. Besides being amazing stories, they had very well developed characters and plots. These I could read over and over again and never get tired of them. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, I've probably read 50 times. The story is so engaging and poignant, you feel his betrayal starkly and his thirst for revenge.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything...some times I read mass production novels for a quick read but when I want to be fully immersed in a story I have a small personal library of nearly 1000 physical books and another 500 ebooks to choose from. Some days I choose to delve into the classics.
