Interview with Eric Kaestner

Published 2017-07-17.
When did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in 1951 and did not like or want to write anything. Therefore, my early years did not influence my writing. It wasn't until I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit that I began writing. My first article was in the 1988 "The Good News Letter."
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was called "The Solid Rock" and it appeared in the first copy of "The Good News Letter."
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Back in November of 2013, I awoke with the Lord speaking to my heart. The word "ebooks" filled my mind for hours while I was in bed. Many of you reading this might think that this is rather strange. However, back in 1988, the Lord spoke to Anne (my wife) with the word "newsletters." That was the beginning of our nonprofit ministry called Bible Believers Fellowship, Inc. Over the pass decade funding has been extremely poor and dwindling each year. Even though we have world wide presence due to the internet, people just aren't that interested in donating to a prison ministry. However, people are interested in good Christian books and the creation of ebooks allows anyone to self publish and distribute through the internet. So, God motivated Anne and me to become indie authors.
How do you approach cover and chapter design?
I try to incorporate the general theme of the book into the cover design. I do the same process for each chapter. Then I use clipart and/or photos, and fonts that will best get the point across. Most of my designs are done with the help of ideas from my wife, Anne.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords and the books by Mark Coker gave me the guidance and instruction of how to become an indie publisher. Back in the Autumn of 2013, when the Lord spoke to me about ebooks, I knew nothing about how to start publishing, yet alone what an ebook was. Searching the internet, I found out about Smashwords and the rest is history. Presently, my wife has seven ebooks published with the first one being released in March 2014 called "What's The Use?" and roughly one each month since then. My first book is called "False Doctrines Of The Church" and I probably will have a few more unless the Lord wants me to write more.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
For reading outdoors in daylight, I prefer to use the Barnes & Nobles Nook because in direct sunlight you cannot see anything on the screen when using a tablet. I also like the Nook because of the length of time between battery charges (two months compared to a few days with a tablet). However, when reading indoors, I prefer using a tablet with the Nook or Kindle app which allows me to access all links to external websites in an ebook and to view everything in color.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book called "False Doctrines Of The Church" was written because of the way that the Christian church has allowed all types of man-made dangerous beliefs to infiltrate it. This corruption of God's Word is nothing new though. The epistles of the Apostle Paul are all about how the various churches allowed bad doctrine to worm its way in and pollute the minds of the believers.
What are you working on next?
I am working on helping my wife Anne get her next ebook ready for publishing. She does the writing and I do the checking of scripture, spelling, grammar, and editing. Next, with Anne's ideas, I create the cover and chapter pictures and finally put it all together in the correct format to upload to Smashwords to create the different type of files for ebooks.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working on our website, bookkeeping, Anne's ebooks, fundraising, and other functions for Bible Believers Fellowship, Inc. When I'm not doing ministry business, I do some gardening, fixing up the house, and feeding three cats (our own indoor cats and a stray outdoor cat).

This is about doctrines like “Judging The Believer”, where Christians judge the world, but don’t see the sins among themselves (1 Cor. 5:1-13) and “Is Self Esteem From God?” which promotes arrogance. Also, “The King’s Kid Doctrine” which teaches an “I’m better than you because I’m a Christian” attitude. And “The Doctrine Of Unconditional Eternal Security” (Once Saved, Always Saved) (John 15:6).
