Interview with Ella Sweetland

How do you approach cover design?
If the book is part of a series, I like them to be consistent. My first series has been a learning curve and as I've progressed, I've found other tools for more professional designs. I can't wait to unveil them next year.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
This is an impossible choice. As a romance author, I like anything that captures all the emotions: love, sadness (I don't mind crying) and comedy. I also appreciate stories of the underdog, such as The Power of One and Harry Potter.
What makes a good romance?
I lean towards real romance, where passion and devotion are balanced with heartbreak and mistakes, along with the joy and crazy chaos of family and friends.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, with beach, bush, and farming, so my little community of imaginary friends live up that way, too. There'll always be a beach in one of my books.
When did you first start writing?
Officially, three years ago, but I've always entertained myself with little stories. While I was wandering around at work one day, I had a light bulb moment - I wanted to read the story I'd come up with. It's still waiting for me to finish because I don't like prequels.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'm currently editing book #4 in the Second Chance Series. It's the final one, and focusses on the obstetrician, Rick, whose marriage failed because he and his wife couldn't have children.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love how the characters come alive, from the first idea until I've added in the little traumas and life lessons that round out humans.
What are you working on next?
Della's sons from book 2 will have their own series next year, as well as a spin-off from Dani's friend April from book 3.
Who are your favorite authors?
Nora Roberts, Melissa Foster, Tracey Alvarez, Marie Force, Serenity Woods, Bella Andre, R.L. Mathewson, Cora Seton
Describe your desk
